Golf Cruise from Virginia to Georgia: The Renowned Courses of the Mid-Atlantic South
The Old South is considered by many to be the lovliest part of the United States, and the golf courses of this region are equally gracious and beautiful. We have arranged for you to play at five superb golf courses on this springtime voyage. At the Links at Stono Ferry in Charleston, golfers enjoy the breeze of the Intracoastal Waterway as they test themselves on the heartpounding back nine holes. Robert Trent Jones, Sr., created the course at Virginia’s Golden Horseshoe Golf Club—he considered it his “finest design.” Today it is acclaimed as one of the best examples of classic golf course architecture. And outside Beaufort, South Carolina, the Secession Golf Club’s mandatory walking policy brings the game back to an earlier era.

TRAVEL & LEARN WITH A TEAM OF EXPERTS
Rick Howard is a Master Teaching Professional whose experience with both PGA TOUR
and LPGA players coupled with over 12 years of golf instruction experience give him an
extraordinarily deep understanding of both the golf swing and the game of golf. Using
state-of-the-art video equipment, Rick’s simple, yet effective, teaching philosophy has
improved the golf games of thousands of golfers throughout the United States, Canada,
and Europe. Rick has served as the Director of Instruction at Oakmont Country Club, in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. He has worked with several top-name athletes and celebrities, including Adam Baldwin, Rick Rhoden, Al Del Greco, Tony Romo, and Dick Anderson, just to name a few. A former Golf Professional of the Year, Rick was a finalist on the Golf Channel’s “Big Break VI.” Rick has also been featured in several golf instruction publications.
Terry Miskolczi, BSc, CPGA, CTP, is the consummate golf professional; a tour player,
published author, TV/radio personality, and one of North America’s foremost golf
educators/instructors. A graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio with a BSc
in health and physical education, Terry has combined his educational background in the
science of exercise physiology and competitive tour experience to create an informative
yet entertaining debunking of the myth that golf is the most difficult sport to learn. Terry
helps the golfer understand that a strong repetitive golf motion is actually as easy as it
looks. His students call him “Canada’s Golf Doctor” for the health he has restored to their
golf games.
Harold Holzer is the author, co-author, or editor of 42 books on Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War era. He is the founding vice chairman of The Lincoln Forum and Chairman of The Lincoln Bicentennial Foundation, and in 2008 was awarded the National Humanities Medal by the President of the United States.
Yorktown
The Yorktown
The Yorktown is the perfect vessel for relaxed and convivial exploration of America’s great coastal waterways. Built in Florida in 1988 specifically for coastal cruising and certified by the U. S. Coast Guard, the Yorktown flies the American flag and is staffed by friendly and experienced American officers and crew. With a draft of only 9 feet, the Yorktown is able to maneuver in secluded waterways and visit small ports that are inaccessible to larger vessels. And Yorktown’s American registry makes it possible to operate domestic itineraries unavailable to foreign-flag ships. The ship’s cuisine, served in a dining room large enough to accommodate all guests at once, emphasizes American regional culinary traditions. Accommodating only 138 guests in 69 exterior cabins, the Yorktown enjoys an atmosphere of warm and relaxed informality that endears it to repeat and new guests alike.
Life aboard Yorktown
Life aboard Yorktown is relaxed and informal, and dress is always casual. Guests discover soon after settling in that the ship’s design fosters a sense of community and shared enterprise. Most cabins have large picture windows, and each is furnished with comfortable beds, a writing desk, ample storage, a clock/radio/CD player, and has a private bathroom. Your cabin is the perfect place for peace and quiet and for private rest and reflection. But you will want to spend most of your time in one of Yorktown’s inviting common areas. The Lounge, never more than two decks away (Yorktown has no elevator), is the hub of shipboard activity—the place to read, to converse with fellow travelers, to attend lectures and concerts, to enjoy a cocktail as the pianist performs on the ship’s Steinway piano, or simply to enjoy unobstructed views of the passing scene. The Sun Deck affords similar opportunities to read and relax, with the added virtue of open air.
BESPOKE SMALL-SHIP AMENITIES
Returning from excursions, guests enjoy complimentary refreshments, afternoon tea and all-day coffee in The Lounge, a gracious space for relaxation, surrounded by panoramic windows. Before or after dinner, cocktails are served to live music performed by the ship’s pianist on a Steinway piano.
Other Yorktown features include:
- Internet access
- Window-lined lounge with panoramic views
- Dining room surrounded by windows
